French officials have consented to start stopping small boats in the Channel, following months of pressure from the UK.

This policy shift follows the British leader wrote to the French leader urging him to support the plan and stating there presently "have no effective deterrent" in the maritime passage.

French security forces will be allowed to intercept the small boats at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their migrants, according to authoritative statements.

French police have rarely intervened to prevent the overcrowded boats leaving the coastline because it is viewed as excessively high a risk to both officers and individuals.

"It is essential that we deploy these methods this month... We have no effective deterrent in the Channel waters."

Now, a French maritime police spokesperson says officers will start intervening at sea, with the aim of protecting human life.

Notably, the official excluded the use of entanglement devices to intercept boats, which had previously been suggested as a possible method to snarl the engines of the vessels.

The decision to intervene at all is a major step forward, coming after a short-lived shift towards a more aggressive strategy this warmer season, which ceased when the previous government official left government.

This was demonstrated in the summer month, preceding a meeting between the Prime Minister and French president, when authorities were witnessed walking into the sea to damage the sides of a boat.

Now French authorities will once more be permitted to stop boats prior to they pick up migrant passengers from the coastal areas of northern France, although it's uncertain how the small boats will be stopped.

Strong winds are presently postponing the commencement of intervention operations and the human trafficking gangs will be looking for ways to adapt to avoid interception, as they have frequently done in the previous instances.

The Home Office and the Prime Minister's office have been contacted for response.
